Preston Medical & Dental Centre in Preston operates as a mixed billing practice. Independent practitioners vary their fees depending on the type of consultation and the services provided. Most practitioners offer bulk billing for eligible patients, including pensioners, healthcare cardholders, and children under the age of 16.

Any Wound review will incur an out of pocket fee of $25

  • Some services can be claimed under WorkCover, CTP claims consultations, a Chronic Disease Management Plan, or Mental Health Care Plan

  • If you are bulk-billed, no payment is required, (if you have pre-authorised a payment and your doctor choses to bulk bill you your pre-authorisation will be voided)
  • Otherwise, you will be required to pay the full fee of your consultation on the day of your appointment
  • Fees can be paid via Credit Card or EFTPOS
  • The practice will submit any claim to Medicare on your behalf. Medicare typically pays the rebate within 24 - 48 hours.
  • Surcharge may apply for all Credit Card and Debit Card payments.
  • The GPs at this Practice are now pre-authorising all transactions. If you are unable to return to the desk after your appointment, your card will be automatically charged for your consultation.

We understand that unplanned issues can arise, and you may need to cancel an appointment. Should this occur, we respectfully ask that the scheduled appointments be cancelled at least 4 hours in advance.

A no show/cancellation fee of $50 may apply if your appointment is cancelled with less than 4 hours’ notice.

Please note cancelation fees and notice periods may differ for Allied Health, Specialist and procedure appointments, if in doubt please speak to reception.

For URGENT issues when the centre is CLOSED please call Urgent After Hours on   0466 442 137 Fees may apply.
Patients may be eligible for Medicare rebates however an out of pocket fees will be incurred as this is an after-hours service.
This number is not in operation when the centre is open.
For routine non-urgent matters, please call the centre during opening hours.

We send you recalls/reminders by SMS/mail for follow up consultations and test results
We are committed to preventative health and support Commonwealth and State Reminder programs. This means we may occasionally send you information by SMS/mail on these programs such as Vaccinations and Cervical Screening
If you do not want to receive these reminders, advise your Doctor, Allied Health Practitioner or reception

For referrals, letters or repeat scripts please book an appointment with your doctor. To discuss your test results please book an appointment with your doctor.
Due to privacy reasons reception cannot access or give results.

To transfer your medical record to another medical practice we require:
A signed authorised request form from you.
A copy of your proof of identity with photo and signature.
An administrative fee applies to transfer requests.
You will be contacted by our records team and advised the fee, fees must be paid before records can be released.
Transfer requests can take up to 5 weeks to process.

Do you Bulk-Bill?

We are a mixed billing practice, which means only some services and patients are Bulk Billed. At the same time, all GPs at our practice are independent practitioners who decide their own fees.

What is mixed billing?

Mixed Billing means our practice charges a private fee for some consultations and patients, and bulk bills others. Bulk-Billing is when the payment for your consultation or treatment with your doctor is covered entirely by Medicare, whereas services not covered by bulk billing attract a private fee and if eligible you will receive a rebate from Medicare. This means there is an out of pocket cost to you

Why should I pay a private fee?

At our practice, we passionately believe in providing high quality healthcare to our community. By becoming a mixed billing practice, we are able to meet the rising costs of running a practice to minimise wait times, retain high quality GPs, provide valuable consultations and facilitate services like Women’s Health so that you and your family receive the healthcare that you deserve in a family friendly environment.

No Medicare Card

Patients without a valid Medicare will pay a private fee and are not eligible to receive a Medicare rebate.
